Due to a malfunctioning accelerator pedal, Tesla has recalled all 3,878 Cybertrucks

A defect that causes the accelerator pedal to become stuck in Tesla Cybertrucks has led to a tesla recall that essentially affects every Cybertruck the company has shipped to consumers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated on Wednesday that when “high force is applied,” the fault may cause the pedal pad to come loose and become stuck in the interior trim of the car.

According to the recall notice, the defect was brought about by an “unapproved change” that added “lubricant (soap)” during the accelerator pedal assembly, reducing the pad’s retention. If the accelerator pedal becomes stuck, the truck’s brakes will still operate, albeit this is obviously not the best solution.

The recall applies to “all Model Year (‘MY’) 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023, to April 4, 2024.” It is estimated that all 3,878 vehicles are affected by the fault. Since Cybertruck’s inception last year, nearly every truck that has been supplied to consumers looks like this one.

Cybertruck buyers were apparently advised earlier this week that their deliveries were delayed; at least one owner was reportedly notified by their vehicle dealership that the truck was being recalled due to an accelerator pedal issue. This seemingly meant that a recall was imminent. Another owner of a Cybertruck brought attention to the problem on TikTok, demonstrating how the malfunction “held the accelerator down 100 percent, full throttle.”

According to the timeline provided in the NHTSA petition, Tesla received two reports—one on April 3 and the other on March 31—notifying them of the malfunctioning accelerator pedals. Before voluntarily announcing a recall, the corporation conducted internal examinations on April 12 to determine the cause. According to Tesla, as of this past Monday, there have been no “collisions, injuries, or deaths” connected to the pedal issue.

Tesla has promised to replace or repair the pedals on recalled cars at no cost to Cybertruck owners, and the company is alerting its stores and service centers about the problem “on or around” April 19. A replacement accelerator pedal component and part number will also be installed on any trucks manufactured starting on April 17.

Actually, the Cybertruck is only the subject of the second of Tesla’s several recalls, but this one is the most important. Due to a font on the warning lighting panel being too small to meet safety regulations, the business had to recall 2 million Tesla vehicles in the US back in February. However, this issue was fixed with a software update.

When the firm has shown itself capable of resolving issues through over-the-air software updates, Tesla enthusiasts have objected to the term “recall” in the past. However, they will probably have to concede that the phrase is appropriate in this instance.
